Luo Jing, the first secretary of Zhuling Village, Shimen Township, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, introduced the carbon sink trading to merchants visiting. The income entered the village collective account on the day the agreement was signed.
According to reports, "selling air" is the common name of forestry carbon sink trading, which trades carbon inclusive emission reduction through entrusted carbon emission rights exchange. That means carbon dioxide emission enterprises offset their corresponding carbon emissions by purchasing air carbon sinks generated by trees to achieve a virtuous cycle of economic development and ecological protection.
According to Luo Jing, the forest farms in the Zhuling Village mountains cover more than 1,333 hectares, of which 1,000 hectares of bamboo forest contain rich carbon sequestration resources. According to the estimation of a third-party institution, the total carbon sequestration amount reaches 80,000 metric tons, worth more than 3.5 million yuan ($490,512).
Luo Jing said that in the past, the bamboo forest on the mountain was almost unmanaged. By "selling air" this time, villagers have benefited and are more confident in managing the bamboo forest. (Reporter Liu Honghe Editor Jiang Lu)
