The Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station, one of the key transportation projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, started operation on Tuesday.
The Baiyun station, four times larger than the Guangzhou South Railway Station, has become one of the largest transit-oriented development (TOD) hubs in Asia.
With 21 departure and arrival tracks and 21 platforms for passenger service, the Baiyun station links several major railway routes, including the Beijing-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, the Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway, and the Guangzhou-Maoming Railway.
The station has seven floors, including three floors above ground and four floors below ground.
The Shantou South to Shanwei section of the Shantou-Shanwei High-speed Railway also opened to traffic on the same day.
