A light rail train developed by CRRC for Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, was put into commercial operation on Wednesday local time, which is the first time a made-in-China light rail train serves Mexico City's public transportation system.
The articulated light rail train can be applied to complex lines with a minimum turning radius of 25 meters. The train is equipped with an automatic coupler and can be automatically organized according to the passenger flow density.
The train will operate on the Xochimilco line, from Xochimilco to Taxqueña, which is 13.04 km long and contains 16 stations and 2 terminals. When all nine new trains are in operation, they will increase the capacity of light rail by 40 percent for Mexico City Electric Transportation Authority (STE), reducing waiting times by four minutes and significantly improving travel conditions in densely populated areas.
