At the beginning of the new year, professional personnel carried out rescue protection for some caves in the Beishan cluster in Dazu Rock Carvings.
Dazu Rock Carvings are one of eight famous Buddhist carvings in the world. The collection of grottoes and carvings in Dazu represents the highest level of grotto art between the 9th and 13th centuries during the Tang and Song dynasties in China. Dazu Rock Carvings were listed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1999, and it is the only world cultural heritage in Chongqing at present.
The Beishan cluster completed its present scale in the Song Dynasty (960–1279), which has high historical and artistic value. The rescue protection project was carried out in Cave No.176 to Cave No.180 of the Beishan cluster, which is also one of the areas with the most serious water damage.
