On Monday, the tenth day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar, activities of the God Pageant Ceremony (called "Youshen" in Chinese) were held in Houfu village, Changle District, Fuzhou, east China's Fujian Province, attracting many locals to participate in.
At noon, with more than 300 gods and goddesses gathered one after another, the parade left the Yingwu Temple in Houfu Village and passed through the streets and alleys. Wherever the parade went, families lit firecrackers.
Many local people believe that more and more young people now are joining the activities, which has better helped the inheritance of traditional culture.
Houfu Village is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese. Every year, on the tenth and twenty-sixth day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar, Houfu Village will hold the traditional folkloric activities of the God Pageant Ceremony, which has a history of more than 400 years so far.
