As strong gales and snowfall swept across northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, a fantastic "ice shove" spectacle recently appeared on the surface of the frozen Bosten Lake.
Drone footage showed numerous cracks and uplifted strips of ice stretching for dozens of kilometers. The phenomenon results from compression in the ice layers as they melt.
