People of the Dong ethnic group gathered to worship their ancestor Sama during the Sama Festival in Rongjiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Guizhou Province, on Monday.
During the Sama Festival, grand cultural entertainment activities will also be held, including Duoye. Duoye is a traditional celebration of the Dong ethnic group, during which people gather around in a circle to sing and dance for praying.
Sama was the name of a heroine in the ancient maternal society of Dong people. The Sama Festival, enlisted as one of the national intangible cultural heritages in 2006, is held to commemorate their ancestor.
