Wednesday was the sixth day of a forest fire in Yajiang, Sichuan Province. Firefighting and rescue work was still underway. In addition to the manual rescue on the ground, air rescue has also become an important power to put out the fire.
The playground of the Xiala Primary School in the town of Xiala has become a temporary landing field, where several helicopters are on standby. At noon, the smoke gradually cleared. After receiving the takeoff instruction, the pilot took the helicopter into the air, pulled a bucket with a capacity of 3 tonnes of water at the bottom, and began to fight the fire.
In addition to firefighting helicopters, drones also play an important role in fighting forest fires in Yajiang. Long Wenyin, chief of the combat training department of the Aba detachment at the Sichuan Forest Fire Brigade, told CNS reporter that the Sichuan forest fire fields have complex terrain, with an average altitude of 2,600 meters. The slope is steep, generally up to 70 degrees to 80 degrees. The water pumps are particularly difficult to set up. Firefighters cannot directly dispose of many fire points on the edge of cliffs.
Long Wenyin introduced that in a recent firefighting operation, firefighters found that the lit pine tower fell from the mountain, and then ignited the fallen wood and decayed trees. The rescue team could not get close to the fire point after trying various ways. The industrial drones equipped with fire extinguishing agents could accurately put out fires.
