China Coast Guard found discarded rusty oil drums and other garbage in the waters near China's Ren'ai Jiao in the South China Sea while carrying out routine patrols.
When salvaging, a large amount of oily liquid overflowed from the oil drum, quickly spreading on the sea surface. In addition, discarded ropes and foam floats were also discovered.
After preliminary analysis, the rusty oil drums, thick ropes and foam floats were similar to the iron drums, cables and floats on board the BRP Sierra Madre, a warship that the Philippines illegally grounded on China's Ren'ai Jiao, and were most likely discarded by this warship.
China Coast Guard will resolutely safeguard the sovereignty and ecological environment of the Ren'ai Jiao and other waters in the South China Sea, and retain relevant evidence of Philippine vessels and personnel destroying the marine ecological environment.
