(ECNS) -- European Union members voted to impose tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs). Daryl Guppy, former national board member of the Australia China Business Council and Australian representative of the Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce, noted that these tariffs take away European consumers' choice to buy EVs at a variety of price levels, and will also impact on the achievement or the ability to achieve green economy goals.

In terms of China's response, Guppy raised the case of Japanese carmakers responding to U.S. tariffs in 1980s, noting that making cars "still attractive even at the higher price created by tariffs" might be a way out for Chinese carmakers. (Chen Tianhao)
