Xizang, located on the “Roof of the World,” was once a barren land.
At the founding of the People’s Republic of China, over 100,000 people built roads through mountains and bridges over rivers, creating the Sichuan-Xizang and Qinghai-Xizang highways. They turned natural barriers into passages and created miracles in the history of road construction.
Over the past 60 years, the construction and maintenance of these highways have cultivated a “Two Roads” spirit characterized by fearlessness, perseverance, self-sacrifice, military-civilian unity, and ethnic harmony.
In 2014, President Xi Jinping issued an important directive on the 60th anniversary of the completion of the two highways.
In the new era, a new generation of builders continues to work on the plateau, overcoming difficulties and infusing the "Two Roads" spirit with new significance.
