The winter fishing season this year at the Bosten Lake in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region started on Saturday with a promising first catch, marking a successful beginning.
After a fierce bidding competition, an 18-kilogram grass carp was auctioned for 118,800 yuan ($16,201), symbolizing good luck and prosperity.
With a water area exceeding 1,600 square kilometers, the Bosten Lake is the country's largest inland freshwater lake and the biggest fishery base in Xinjiang. Every January, the area hosts winter fishing activities, drawing visitors and showcasing its rich aquatic resources.
