Staring from Dec. 1, 2024, China began to give all the least developed countries with which it has diplomatic relations zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent tariff lines, including 33 African countries, becoming the first developing country and major economy to announce such a policy.
Tefera Derbew Yimam, the Ethiopian Ambassador to China, said China has taken a bold policy measure to strengthen its relation with developing countries through deepening the opening up of its economy, in an interview with China News Network on Sunday.
“I think the zero tariff approach offers a wider opportunity for Africa and Ethiopia. It will enable us to bring more Ethiopian commodities to the huge Chinese market,” Yimam said.
