9 dead, 5 trapped in NE China flooded coal mine (1/4)

By early Thursday, nine are confirmed dead and five are still trapped after a flood occurs in a colliery at about 7 a.m. Wednesday at a shaft of the Junyuan No. 2 Coal Mine located in Hegang, Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

Twenty-eight miners were working underground when the accident happened. A total of 14 workers had managed to escape on their own or with help. [Photo: Xinhua/Wang Song]
