India and China can work together in humanitarian operations like that which they have carried out in Yemen, said a senior Indian strategic analyst on Monday.
Lt. Gen. Ramesh Chopra said the rescue operation by Chinese navy vessels off Yemeni coast has helped many Chinese and foreign nationals, including Indians, to evacuate from the strife-torn nation.
Indian navy has also helped Indians and foreigners depart the country.
"Both nations can cooperate in this humanitarian and compassionate venture. They have done so in the past with regard to cooperation and coordinated operations in counter piracy in the Aden sector and off the coast of East Africa," he said.
"Specifically, the navies including the coast guard of the two countries should carry out joint operations wherever warranted. Similar would be the case with the air force of both countries," said the expert.
"In fact, The National Disaster Management Agency of India and corresponding organizations of China should pool in their resources whenever necessary."
