A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman on Wednesday said that China has lodged solemn representations to the Myanmar side after another two Myanmar shells fell into southwest Yunnan Province.
According to media reports, two shells fired from Myanmar fell in Zhenkang county, Lincang city of Yunnan Province last Thursday and caused injuries. Senior officials of Myanmar's army blamed the Kokang ethnic army for shelling attacks and reportedly said the Kokang army aimed to damage relations between China and Myanmar.
China has required the Myanmar side to make a "serious, overall and responsible" investigation into the incident and give a responsible explanation to China, spokesman Hong Lei told a daily news briefing.
Hong said China also asked the Myanmar side to take effective measures to prevent similar incidents.
"We urge the relevant parties to cool down the situation and restore peace and stability to the China-Myanmar border area at an early date," Hong said.
He added that the Myanmar side promised to make formal feedback to China and China is waiting for Myanmar's official notification.
