Jorge Castro, an expert on international relations, told Xinhua in an interview that Washington and Beijing are mindful that "what is at stake is the system's agenda of governability, given that they are the two main global powers."
"There are two main topics on the agenda: cyber security, because both countries are leading a process of technological revolution, and acceleration of the Bilateral Investment Treaty (talks)," said Castro.
"China has taken the initiative," noted Castro who heads the Institute of Strategic Planning.
The expert also echoed the opinion of experts around the world, saying that the two countries can sort out their differences and increase mutual trust through dialogues and cooperation, and should take Xi's visit as an opportunity to deepen mutual trust and boost the development of China-U.S. relations.
On Tuesday, Xi put forward a four-point proposal on the development of a new model of major-country relationship between the two countries.
China and the United States should read each other's strategic intentions correctly, further advance win-win cooperation, manage their differences properly and effectively to seek more common ground, and boost people-to-people exchanges, Xi said during a speech in the U.S. West Coast city of Seattle.
Xi began his first state visit to the United States Tuesday after he became Chinese head of state in 2013, a landmark trip aimed at building up trust and stepping up cooperation between the world's two biggest economies.
