The Chinese mainland's Taiwan affairs chief Zhang Zhijun on Tuesday expressed his hope that his upcoming meeting with Taiwan's mainland affairs chief Andrew Hsia would bear positive results.
Zhang, director of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks when he greeted Hsia, who arrived in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province on Tuesday afternoon for his first mainland visit since he took office in February.
The two are expected to review cross-Straits ties and achievements made since 2008 to draw on experiences and seek inspiration for future development in a scheduled meeting on Wednesday, according to Zhang.
"Cross-Straits relations are encountering some problems at present which entails the two sides exchanging views," Zhang said.
Wednesday's meeting will be the fourth formal meeting between the chiefs of cross-Straits affairs.
Cross-Straits affairs chiefs have conducted extensive exchanges on the situation, policies and problems which need to be dealt with in ties since a communication mechanism between cross-Straits affairs authorities was set up in February last year, Zhang said.
"Such exchanges have been of great help for maintaining stable relations," he added.
