A Japanese foreign affairs expert says Abe should focus on improving the bilateral ties, rather than hyping up the South China Sea issue by using its host status of the G7 meeting.
"Improving China-Japan relations is a common wish for both Japanese people and the economic industry. So the Japanese government has to achieve this. But unfortunately, Prime Minister Abe is trying to deny the 9th article of the constitution to take the military as means for solution,"said Naoto Amaki, foreign affairs commentator.
"Especially now he is specifically exaggerating China's threat and set it up as an opponent. Also he is trying to establish a ring of encirclement around China by consistently supporting some of the south-eastern Asian countries that have territory disputes with China. This is what he has been doing. This time, he again wants to take the host status of the G7 meeting, to wave the ring of encirclement and hype up issues of South China Sea."
