China opposes the use of chemical weapons by anyone in any circumstances for any purposes, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said on Tuesday.
Hua made the remarks when asked to comment on media reports that the Syrian opposition had used toxic gas during attacks in Aleppo.
Syrian opposition fighters launched an assault with a barrage of rocket fire into west Aleppo, killing a large number of civilians and injuring hundreds more, according to the UN special envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura on Sunday.
"China expresses serious concerns about this," Hua said at a daily press briefing.
China urges all parties to end hostilities, abandon military operations, and commit to dialogue and negotiation to resolve their differences, Hua said.
All sides should support de Mistura's mediation efforts and restart the Geneva peace negotiations at an early date, the spokesperson said.
