Innovation requires openness and willingness to share technologies, and Russian-Chinese cooperation in biomedicine will definitely bring mutually beneficial results, a Chinese embassy official said Tuesday.

Zhang Qiang, the secretary of science and technology of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, made the remark at the II International Forum "Russian-Chinese Biomedical Cooperation" held here.

St. Petersburg Polytechnic University Director Andrei Rudskoy said at the forum that China and Russia each have its own advantages in technology and management, and their effort to incubate biomedicine projects together is a reflection of practical cooperation.

The first Russian-Chinese biomedical forum was successfully held in Shanghai in June 2017. Then two countries established a biomedical cooperation center to create innovative medical technologies, materials, equipment, and training.

According to Wang Jing, the deputy head of Shanghai Pudong Science Committee, the functional nucleus of Russian-Chinese cooperation in biomedicine is now located in the Pudong region.

St. Petersburg Polytechnic University opened a representative office in Pudong last year. The university has signed contracts worth more than 1 million U.S. dollars with different Chinese commercial companies, said Rudskoy.

Irina Ganus, the deputy chairman of St. Petersburg Committee on Science, said that the basis for successful Russian-Chinese cooperation in biomedicine is the broad social support for a comprehensive partnership between Russia and China.
