China and U.S relations should feature no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, according to a commentary published Monday by the Communist Party of China's mouthpiece the "People's Daily."
The paper lauded the encouraging trade figures and increased investment between the two major powers, stating that a prosperous China can benefit America and vice versa.
Sound China-U.S. cooperation can lay a solid foundation for global peace and stability while discord or conflict between the two would be a disaster for them and the whole world, according to the article.
Due to their differences in history, culture, social system and levels of development, conflicts of views are inevitable. It would be wise for both countries to prioritize their common interests, build strategic trust and manage their differences to avoid misunderstandings and miscalculations, the paper warned.
The article also called for mutual respect, to avoid challenges to core interests.
A Cold War mentality should give way to trust and mutual benefit, which would support China-U.S. cooperation and contribute to peace and development worldwide, it said.
