The "suspension for suspension" initiative is the most reasonable, fair and practical way to resolve the Korean Peninsula issue, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said here Thursday.

Hua Chunying said the initiative, proposed by China, can not only ease the tension on the Korean Peninsula, but also address the security concerns of all sides, paving the way for a restart of talks.

Media reported UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Wednesday that the Resolution 2371, adopted by the United Nations Security Council, sends an unambiguous message regarding the peace and security obligations of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

It also represents an opportunity for diplomatic engagement and renewed dialogue to solve this crisis, Guterres said.

Also, German Chancellor Angela Merkel recently said that military means cannot resolve the issue, and Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford said it meets the common objectives of the United States and China to bring about denuclearization of the peninsula through peaceful means.

In response, Hua said more and more leaders, including U.S. officials, have clearly expressed unanimity that the resolution of the issue will come through peaceful, political and diplomatic means.

China always stresses the core and nature of the Korean Peninsula issue is security, she said, adding that dialogue is the only way to properly address the reasonable security concerns of all sides and thus resolve the issue permanently.
