The upcoming 19th National Congress of the Community Party of China (CPC) will give the world answers to rising expectations for China's bigger role in international affairs, says the newly appointed South Korean ambassador to China.[Special coverage]
Noh Young-min, who left for Beijing on Tuesday, made the remarks in an earlier interview with Xinhua. He is South Korea's first ambassador to China under the Moon Jae-in government, which was inaugurated in May.
"Over the past five years, China has shown the potential it has to the entire world," he said, noting that China has achieved quantitative and qualitative growth "simultaneously in harmony" and become an economic powerhouse.
China has also begun to turn into a key player in the international community for world peace, added the ambassador.
Given such a context, he said, the upcoming CPC congress will provide answers to the global expectations for China's bigger role and responsibility on the world stage.
In addition, he said he believes the event also has significance for the preparation of the CPC's 100th anniversary in 2021.
The 19th National Congress of the CPC is set to open in Beijing on Oct. 18. In accordance with the party's constitution, the CPC holds a national congress every five years.
