At the invitation of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Chinese president, Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), paid an unofficial visit to China from Sunday to Wednesday.
Kim's recent visit will help the two countries deepen communication, strengthen coordination and promote cooperation, and push the bilateral relations to a new high in the new historical phase.
The visit, which came at a special time and was of great significance, will inject positive energy into easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula and pushing forward peace, stability and development in the region.
Positive changes have currently taken place on the Korean Peninsula, in which China has played an important role. Practice has fully proved that the principles, decisions, and plans concerning the Korean Peninsula issue advanced by the CPC Central Committee with Xi at the core are totally correct.
The China-DPRK traditional friendship, established and cultivated meticulously by the older generations of leaders of both parties and countries, is the precious wealth of both sides.
Several generations of the leaders of China and the DPRK have maintained close exchanges in the past few decades. The two parties and countries have supported each other and coordinated with each other, making great contributions to the development of the socialist cause.
It is a strategic choice and the only right choice both sides have made to pass on the traditional China-DPRK friendship, based on history and reality, the international and regional structure and the general situation of China-DPRK ties.
The CPC and the Chinese government highly value China-DPRK friendly cooperative ties. It is an unswerving principle of the CPC and the Chinese government to maintain, consolidate and develop good relations with the DPRK.
Efforts should be made to continue giving play to the guiding role of high-level exchanges, make full use of the time-tested valuable practices of strategic communication, actively advance peaceful development and cement the popular will foundation for China-DPRK friendship.
The positive changes on the Korean Peninsula are in line with the interests of all parties. China adheres to the goal of denuclearization of the peninsula, safeguarding peace and stability in northeast Asia, and solving problems through dialogue and consultation.
China will continue to play a constructive role on the issue and work with all parties, including the DPRK, toward the thaw of the situation on the peninsula. All parties need to support the improvement of inter-Korean ties, and take concrete efforts to facilitate peace talks.
No matter how the international and regional situations change, as long as we staunchly safeguard the traditional China-DPRK relationship and the peace and stability on the peninsula, the benefits will be felt by the people of both countries and around the world.
