A childish burglar never expected that the excrement he mischievously left on the scene of one of his recent crimes would eventually lead to his imprisonment.
"Most well-known robbers in novels like to leave some marks on the scene of the crime," said the 29-year-old man from Guizhou Province, surnamed Chen.
On April 16, 2010, Chen and his partner sneaked into a house in Henghe, Zhejiang Province. First creeping into the kitchen to grab a bite to eat, they then left their two heaps of excrement by the door, after which they began to ransack the house's valuables.
The house owner was awakened by the noise and began to pursue the thieves.
Chen and his partner scampered away like rats. Four months later, Chen and his partner arrived at the same town again and stole more than 1,000 yuan ($158.70) and a computer from another house. Similarly, they released themselves at the door after a lavish feast in Hu's kitchen.
The police made DNA tests on the excrement and compared the results with those in related data bank. They soon tracked down one of the thieves, Chen.
