High-speed trains delayed for bad weather

2012-01-14 23:37 Xinhua     Web Editor: Li Jing comment

Rains and foggy weather has caused several train delays along the the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway on Saturday afternoon, the Ministry of Railways said.

The bad weather has lead to a disruption in power supply and a closedown of high voltage equipment, which was taken as a self-protection measure, said the ministry.

The incident took place in a time of transport rush during the Spring Festival season, which started on Sunday and will end on Feb.16.

The ministry did not reveal detailed information of the delayed trains, but apologized for causing the trouble.

China's railways will carry 235 million passengers during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, up 6.1 percent year-on-year, the Ministry of Railways said earlier this month.

The Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Jan. 23 this year.
