Shanxi edges Beijing, Jilin stuns Zhejiang

Marcus Williams sank the final 5 of 7 points for Shanxi Zhongyu, as the hosts grabbed a narrow win over Beijing Ducks on 114-111 on Friday in the 24rd round of the Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA).

Charles Gaines led Shanxi with 28 points and 14 rebounds, followed by Marcus Williams and Lv Xiaoming's 19 points and 5 assists apiece. Beijing's Randolph Morris had a game-high 32 points and 11 rebounds. Former NBA star Stephon Marbury added 22.

Shanxi, who stretched the 2-point first quarter advantage to double-digit in the second, enjoyed 63-49 at the break.

Beijing came from behind on 81-81 before Zhai Xiaochuan made a three-point play with 14 seconds left in the third quarter and Marbury buried a driving jumper to put visitors ahead 107-105 after leads being exchanged for several times in the last five minutes.

But Williams answered a crucial three-pointer to boost Shanxi's lead back to 108-107. The one-point gap was kept till 112-111 with 8 seconds to go before Williams sank two tension-packed free throws to seal the Shanxi victory.

Another duel witnessed minnows Jilin Northeast Tigers' stunning 91-74 win over Zhejiang Guangsha led by former NBA Nuggets star Chandler.

Although Zhejiang's paint power Ramos chopped a big double-double 22 points and 19 rebounds, Chandler showed a bad form with 0-of-6 three-pointer and 12 points.

Guard Osama Daghles scored a team-high 23 points for Jinlin, whose Jameel Watkins had 19 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and Cartier Martin contributed 18.

In Friday s other games, Guangdong Hongyuan beat Foshan Long Lions 133-124, Qingdao Doublestars beat Fujian SBS 110-104, Dongguan Marco Polo beat Shandong Gold 95-89, Liaoning Hengye beat Shanghai Sharks 93-84, Jiangsu Dragons beat Bayi Fubang 112-94, Xinjiang Guanghui beat Tianjin Ronggang 134-112.
