A total of 661,000 passengers had entered or exited the city via Shanghai Pudong International Airport as of Tuesday, the 10th day of the Spring Festival travel rush this year, up 59,000 passengers from the same period last year.
The increased travel has pushed the daily passenger volume up to 36,500 people at the airport, the highest seen in recent years.
Airport authorities said more people are choosing Japan over Hong Kong for the holiday this year.
