Two golden monkeys "Hu Hu" and "Le Le" from the Chengdu Zoo flew to Hong Kong on Jan 18 and were escorted by three-members of an expert panel from the zoo.
An official of the Chengdu Zoo said the monkeys will live in the Hong Kong Ocean Park for three years to promote the rare monkey species to the Hong Kong residents.
"We also transported privet by air so the monkeys can eat the hometown food upon their arrival in Hong Kong," the official said.
To ensure the health of the golden monkeys, the Hong Kong Ocean Park has sent people to Chengdu to learn about the golden monkey feeding techniques and disease prevention and control. The Hong Kong Ocean Park also planted many privet trees for the monkeys.
The two monkeys received temperature measurements, blood sampling, feces sampling and chip installations before flying to Hong Kong.
The golden monkey cooperation program between the Chengdu Zoo and the Hong Kong Ocean Park was officially signed last year. The two sides will carry out scientific research cooperation in physiology, ethology, nutriology, veterinary medicine and behavioral training on golden monkeys.
