In the current climate, getting a job can be hard, but ironically quitting a job can sometimes be harder. The company can make it very difficult for you to go for several reasons, including even demanding a big sum of money as compensation. In order to solve the problem, resign designers have stepped out and paved the way for a smoother road to quit.
One such resign designer is Liu Haobin, a lawyer and self-claimed inventor of the resign designer concept. His idea came about back in 2005 when he accepted work on several cases related to resignation. "The reason why the occupation emerged was because many graduates resigned after they got Beijing hukou and the company wanted them to pay lots of money as compensation," Liu said.
To operate the resignation case, a resign designer needs to do two things for the client. Firstly they need to offer their services before resignation by helping the client find a legal resignation reason and writing the letter of resignation. Then they need to coordinate with the company. The service will cost the client 10,000 yuan ($1,585) according to Liu.
At this price, clients need to walk away satisfied. In order to assure that the clients will win the case, the preparation work is of much importance. "We will do the estimation job before accepting the case and if the possibilities that we might lose are large, then we just abandon it. And if the estimation is passed, then we do the case certain that it will be successful," says Liu.
To be a resign designer it is pretty essential that you have a legal background. However, not every lawyer can qualify as a resign designer. "Some lawyers may make the situation worse because they lack experience or use stiff methods, which will lead to a lose-lose situation for the client and company. The best solution of the case is to reach a compromise, so the resign designer needs to have strong communication skills."
Even though many successful cases were dealt with by Liu from 2005 to 2006, Liu still thinks that this occupation doesn't have a bright future. "The number of cases began to drop from 2008 when the Law for Labor Contract stipulated that workers did not need to pay compensation after they got Beijing hukou from a company," he explained.
However, while the cases relating to Beijing hukou have dropped, another problem has emerged, to resign designers' benefit. "Now we concentrate on helping those workers who have to resign due to pressure from the company. Because the company doesn't want to pay the penalty that results from a company sacking an employee, they will use other methods to force the worker to leave," informs Liu.
