G15 slated to be toll-free

2012-02-17 08:56 Global Times     Web Editor: Xu Rui comment

The Shanghai section of the G15 highway - linking Liaoning Province's Shenyang and Hainan Province's Haikou - will be the next Shanghai highway to stop charging toll fees, local authorities said Thursday.

But drivers will have to continue paying up for the next decade, as the move will not take effect until 2022, said authorities.

Twelve Shanghai highways spanning some 693 kilometers currently charge toll fees, after the S5 highway stopped charging fees this year.

No fees are to be charged for using the Shanghai Yangtze River Tunnel Bridge by 2034, some 25 years after it was built.
