Kenya Hara in Shanghai

Japanese graphic designer and curator Kenya Hara, who used to be the art director for the Japanese home décor franchise Muji and the designer of the opening and closing ceremony programs of the Nagano Winter Olympic Games in 1998, will bring his latest artworks to Shanghai. This exhibition will showcase 113 pieces of work including prints, objects and scripts.

Group Painting Exhibition: Open Portraits

The Minsheng Art Museum launches a two-year program of exhibitions to examine and discuss Chinese contemporary art in the past 30 years. The exhibitions will include Open Portraits, Open Landscapes and Open Still Life. The Open Portraits show will include well-known Chinese artists such as Zeng Hao, Chen Danqing, He Duoling and Qiu Xiaofei.

Lorin Maazel and the Philharmonia Orchestra Concert

Under the baton of well-known conductor Lorin Maazel, the Philharmonia Orchestra will present a classical music concert with leading Chinese violinist Chen Jiafeng. It will feature the scores from Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto and Mahler's Symphony No.1. As one of the most famous conductors in the world, Maazel has conducted over 150 orchestras and staged more than 5,000 concerts over the past 50 years.

Lacrimas Profundere Mini Concert

Founded in Germany by Oliver Nikolas in 1993, Lacrimas Profundere is a rock band famous for its catchy, 70s-influenced, gothic rock, complete with dark lyrics. Meaning "to shed tears" in Latin, Lacrimas Profundere will bring "rock and sadness" to local fans this coming Thursday.

Shanghai International Literary Festival

The 10th Shanghai International Literary Festival will be held at the newly renovated Glamour Bar on the Bund. There will be readings and talks by writers including Caitlin Reilly, Amy Tan, Jeff Fuchs, Barbara Demick and cartoonist Matt Groening.
