Carlito's Way @ China Film Archive

A 1993 crime film directed by Brian De Palma and based on the novels Carlito's Way and After Hours, the film will be screened by China Film Archive with a critical discussion to follow after it. Set in 1975, Carlito Brigante (Al Pacino) is freed on a technicality with the help of lawyer friend Dave Kleinfeld (Sean Penn) after serving five years of a 30-year prison sentence. Despite his new-found freedom, Brigante returns to the business he knows best - drug dealing. In English with Chinese subtitles.

War Horse

A 2011 epic war drama directed by Steven Spielberg, War Horse is set in Devon, England, and follows the story of a boy named Albert (Jeremy Irvine) who watches the birth of a thoroughbred foal. Albert's father, Ted (Peter Mullan), buys the colt at auction, despite a friend pointing out a more suitable plough horse for his farm. Albert names the horse Joey and devotes much time to training him and playing with him. The family's landlord soon brings trouble though, demanding Joey plough the fields or he will taken away. Faced with a hopeless situation, Ted sells Joey to Captain Nicholls, a young cavalry officer, as World War I breaks out. Will Albert and Joey be reunited? In English with Chinese subtitles.

Happy Feet Two in 3D

The sequel to the Oscar Award-winning Happy Feet brings the icy world back to life in 3D. Erik, son of penguins Mumble and Gloria, is reluctant to dance like most of the penguins in Emperor Land. In order to escape dancing, he leaves home and meets Sven, a penguin with the unique ability to fly. Erik instantly becomes enamored with Sven. Meanwhile, Erik's homeland faces an extreme threat. What will Erik and his friends do? In English with Chinese subtitles.

The King's Speech

At the 83rd Academy Awards, The King's Speech received 12 Oscar nominations and won four awards. The Duke of York (Colin Firth), second son of King George V, stammers through a speech in public. The Duke has given up hope of overcoming his stutter, but his wife Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter) persuades him to see Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), an unorthodox Australian speech therapist in London. Can Logue's treatment help the Duke overcome his speech impediment? In English with Chinese subtitles.
