Heat on for 3 more days

2012-03-15 08:30 Global Times     Web Editor: Xu Rui comment

The city government has authorized an extension of central heating until Sunday, in anticipation of a chill wind at the weekend, the Legal Mirror reported yesterday.

Cold weather is expected to hit Beijing again starting on Saturday, when the mercury will drop back below freezing. The three-day extension will add another 210 million yuan ($33 million) to the total cost of keeping the municipal heating system running.

The last time Beijing extended its heating season, from November 15 to March 15, was in 2010. The heating was not turned off for an extra week.
