The young Chinese-born designer Marsha Ma has shown her Fall-Winter ready-to-wear line for the first time at the just concluded Paris Fashion Week. Established designers such as Eli Saab and young talent Pedro Lourenco also rolled out their collections.
Masha made white her signature color, using 22 different shades in the collection.
Floor-length skirts, cropped jackets highlighting the waist of multi-layered looks also featured.
Her work has attracted the attention of Hong Kong actress Angelababy.
When asked about her inspiration, the designer summed it up in one word.
Marsha Ma said, "It's based on the idea from Oscar Wilde, from 'The Nightingale and the Roses, so this collection is all about love, basically."
Unlike Marsha, designer Elie Saab is fond of darker colors.
It was a surprising departure for him, a more urban look than usual, with tailored suits in black and grey, a short striped mink jacket, a black jumpsuit with a floor-length cape and bottom-skimming skirts.
At 21, Pedro Lourenco is not even half the age of Elie Saab, but he is already considered as one of the top designers.
Lourenco sees this collection as a highway connecting the countryside with the futurism of the city, from two-tone leather boots with chunky heels to trousers covered with flaps like cutoff chaps and wool coats traversed by curving leather bands.
Whether white or dark, classic or futuristic, the designers are exploring diverse ways towards setting the trend for this year.
