(Ecns.cn)--Guangdong police recently investigated and arrested a gang of criminals in Shenzhen believed responsible for counterfeiting over 100,000 electronic products and the spare parts of famous mobile brands including Apple, China Business News reported Thursday.
Soon after the launches of each generation of iPhone, says the report, many fake products flood into the market in Shenzhen, and the lower prices of these produces attract large amounts of customers.
Besides Apple, mobile phones and spare parts labeled Blackberry, HTC and other brand names can also be found on counters in this Shenzhen marketplace.
These copy cats are cheaper than the genuine article which mostly sell for over 1,000 yuan (US$150), "if you do not make a very close examination of these products, you would hardly know they are counterfeits," said a retailer who sells these fake cell brands.
According to iSuppli, over 24.2 million copycat mobile phones have been produced in China, and this number will reach its climax in 2012 before falling off a little. But since smart phones are becoming more and more popular, there are certain to be more counterfeits of iPhone and Android cell phones.
