(Ecns.cn)—The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation are mulling over new and more accurately detailed maps of certain key offshore areas including the Diaoyu Islands.
Meanwhile, the detailing of new South China Sea maps will continue. Once the mapping exercise is wrapped up, it will be released to the public when conditions permit, to reiterate the country's inalienable sovereignty over the related areas.
The maps are part of the joint publicity and education campaign launched this year by 13 ministries to confirm the general public's confidence in what constitutes China's territory, said the Fazhi Daily on Monday.
In addition, authorities are planning to crackdown on imprecise and unofficial maps currently in wide use that might undermine the country's claims to territorial sovereignty and interests in its coastal waters. Imported publications will also come under the surveillance.
