Sham online shopping services are preying on consumers who cannot wait to get their hands on Apple's latest tablet computer, according to a Beijing Internet security company.
In a typical online hoax involving the new iPad, the scamsters trick their victims into placing a pre-paid mail order for a bootlegged iPad and mail them a counterfeit or even a brick, according to Qihu 360 Technology, a New York-listed Web and mobile security service provider, the Beijing Evening News reported yesterday.
It is still unknown when, if at all, the new iPad will be sold on the Chinese mainland.
