(Ecns.cn)--The Chinese government is working hard to formulate a comprehensive income distribution reform package which it expects to publish within the year, according to an insider with the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

Income distribution reform is in a bid to help narrow the widening income gap as well as to promote and increase sustainable, fair and balanced development of the country's economy and society.

The government will strive to raise the proportion of individual income in national income, and raise the proportion of remuneration in the primary distribution, according to Xinhua citing Premier Wen Jiabao earlier in February.

Income distribution has a direct bearing on social justice and stability, and "we will ensure that the growth in people's incomes keeps pace with economic growth, and salary growth keeps pace with rises in productivity levels," said Wen.
