Exam kids extort gifts

2012-04-01 14:15 Global Times     Web Editor: Xu Rui comment

High school seniors unnerved about sitting the gaokao, or the national college entry examinations, set to take place in June, have sent Beijing parents scrambling for psychiatric support, the Beijing Evening News reported Thursday.

Many worried parents are seeking professional help for their children because the youngsters have cold feet, the newspaper found. One of these children has threatened to quit the exam unless his father buys him a 4,000-yuan ($634) model car.

Xicheng district government opened pre-gaokao support hotlines on Wednesday for the over 10,000 exam sitters in the district and their parents.
