Firemen put out a mountain fire in Changping district three kilometers away from the Juyongguan Great Wall yesterday, after fighting the blaze for 19 hours, the Legal Mirror reported.
A local resident of Shaling village has been accused of starting the fire by burning ceremonial paper money for the dead, a tomb-sweeping tradition, now banned in mountains and woodland areas over fire hazard concerns. The villager is now in police custody.
