Taxi pilot rumor denied

Shanghai transport authorities denied an online rumor Monday, which said that the city is suspending a trial project that allows the recruitment of non-local Chinese taxi drivers.

The pilot, which started last year and has since seen the recruitment of about 1,000 drivers from outside provinces, remains under evaluation.

Authorities said that the decision to extend the pilot or not has not yet been made.
