Two people were killed and six others injured in a pileup Tuesday noon in southwest China's Guizhou Province, fire fighters said.
The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. in a tunnel on the Chongzun section of the Lanzhou-Haikou expressway that links northwestern Gansu Province and southern Hainan Province, sources with the fire service in the county of Tongzi said.
A business van slammed into the interior wall of the tunnel after its tire blew out and caught fire, which resulted in a pileup of two trucks and an off-road vehicle, the sources said.
Two people in the off-road vehicle died while the six injured were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Traffic at the section of the accident resumed late Tuesday. A further investigation into the accident is under way.
