11 fake food products uncovered in China

China's food and drug watchdog Wednesday announced a list of 11 bogus food products and warned consumers against buying them.

The 11 products, including a Hypoglycemic agent—Tangshunin capsule—manufactured by Zhejiang-based Fulaisen bio-engineering company, were found containing chemical ingredients and had been confirmed to have faked being heath-beneficial functional foods, according to a statement from the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA).

The SFDA urged local food and drug administrations to strengthen inspection over the functional food market and severely punish the producers of the 11 fake varieties according to law.

Consumers can refer to sda.gov.cn, the SFDA's website, for licensing information of all functional foods, and could report to local administrations if finding illegal or fake products, said the statement.
