China Xinhua News Network Corporation (CNC) and its music website, www.wowmusic.com, signed an agreement Friday with the Information Office of the Hunan provincial government for advocating Hunan's ethnic culture.
CNC, a TV news network run by Xinhua News Agency, will air Hunan's ethnic programs on the music website as well as the network's Chinese and English channels worldwide, according to the agreement.
CNC will also cooperate with the office to organize some cultural activities and produce cultural publications.
Established in 2009, Xinhua's TV broadcast service is comprised of an overseas satellite broadcasting network, cable and wireless TV networks for a terminal audience and other new media broadcasting channels in the United States, Britain, Canada and over 60 other countries and regions.
The music website www.wowmusic.com is an important part of Xinhua's TV broadcasting service, which has developed rapidly in recent years. The website is the first of its kind in China to showcase the country's ethnic music and art forms to the world.
The website was launched on Dec. 19, 2011, with support from the Chinese central government, Chinese Musicians Association, China Record Corporation and other music organizations.
Kong Heping, director of the Information Office of the Hunan provincial government, said Hunan's cultural sector has boomed alongside economic and social development and become a typical example of China's cultural soft power.
