The National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is presenting its version of the Italian classic, Tosca, in the Opera House, from Thursday. Debuted last year, with both Chinese and Western performers, their take on Puccini's artful drama has been a hit since last May. The newest outing at the NCPA will see the return of the original cast.

Singer Zhang Liping

Music week@ Forbidden City Concert Hall

The Forbidden City Concert Hall (FCCH) presents a week-long selection of performances including a concert by Chinese diva Zhang Liping, a harp recital by Angel Padilla Crespo and a show by Canadian pianist Jacques Couillard Després. A tipped highlight of the performances will take place on the night of April 29 when Zhang will perform Schubert classics including "Serenade," "Ave Maria," and "Auf dem Wasser zu singen."

In order to pay tribute to French composer Claude Debussy, the concert hall will host a concert by French pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet on Wednesday night, in conjunction with this year's Croisements Festival. Jean-Efflam Bavouzet had an education in classical music in Metz, and then at the National Higher Conservatoire de Musique in Paris. In 1986 he won first prize at the International Beethoven-Tommasoni Competition in Cologne and at the New York Young Concert Artists Auditions.

Dance musical Mulan@ Poly Theater

A "dance musical" version of Mulan performed in collaboration between Chinese and Japanese dancers will be staged at the Poly Theater on April 25. The story reenacts the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, who dressed up like a boy and joined the army to help her father. Chinese dancer Huang Doudou will star as Hua Mulan, while Japanese star Makoto Tsubasa will play the general.
