ZHENGZHOU, April 17 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has called for more efforts in building the Central China Economic Zone which highlights a coordination between industrialization, urbanization and modernization of agriculture.

The coordination must be achieved without endangering agriculture and grain production, or ecology and environment, said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, during a six-day inspection tour of central China's Henan province which ended Tuesday.

Wu urged the local authorities to make detailed plans for the implementation of the economic zone's development guideline and to shift to an optimized growth pattern driven by innovation.

Last October, the State Council, China's Cabinet, issued a guideline on building Henan, the most populous province in the country, into a Central China Economic Zone.

More resources should be allocated to rural regions to achieve balanced urban and rural development in terms of basic public services, said Wu.

When visiting enterprises and public institutions, Wu stressed independent innovation in emerging industries, as well as the development of agricultural technologies and modern service sectors.
