Thunderstorms hit Beijing from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning, causing quite a few alternate flight landing in Qingdao, a port city 800 km away from Beijing.
These passengers were from Osaka, Tokyo, Shanghai, Haikou, Sanya, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Taizhou or Chongqing, said an airport spokesman, who stopped short of giving exact number of such flights.
The city's civil aviation and border control departments conducted a contingency plan Wednesday evening for accommodating the stranded passengers.
Weather forecast said thunderstorms would continue Thursday in Beijing, which might still disturb air traffic to and from the Chinese capital.
