The Danish embassy organised a "Climate Race" for Earth Day on Sunday to promote green transport solutions and raise awareness of climate issues.

About 150 participants gathered at the embassy to take part in the event, including Danish Ambassador to China Friis Arne Petersen and Chinese actor Liu Ye, who went on a bike ride together in Beijing's Sanlitun area.

Later in the day, the Climate Race got underway outside the capital, which local bike club members took part in.

Petersen said both Denmark and China believe good energy policies are vital to solve environmental problems.

Meanwhile, some Danish companies took part in the event to support green transport solutions.

Also, several weeks before the Climate Race, the Danish embassy raised 30,000 yuan ($4,756) for local organizations advocating environmentalism.

Peterson handed over the first portion of the charity donation to the NGO "Smarter than Cars".

The Danish embassy also hosted an exhibition explaining the benefits of green transportation.
